New arts and program planned for Ottery

Regular concerts of music, comedy, dance and cultural activities are planned in Ottery, following the revival of the King of Clubs Hall on Gold Street.

Venue promoter Dave Knox, who led the relaunch with his band The Supermarkets, is now taking reservations for acts, adding comedy, dance, DJs and theater.

He also expects the venue, which is part of the King’s Arms pub, to host events such as craft markets in 2022.

Dave told the Herald: “It’s been exciting to be a part of the return of live music to Ottery, where my circle of relatives has lived for over 10 years.

“At the time, I heard a lot about the energy of the local music scene and saw how a massive void was left when it stopped.

“Our first concert was a great fortune and we are delighted to present our live music exhibition in partnership with Kings Arms on Friday 28th January.

“The local network has also asked us for access to a wider diversity of arts, a provision that is not available in the area lately. Therefore, over the course of 2022, we aim to give the East Devon network the opportunity to access, delight in and engage in a wide diversity of arts. “

Live music returned to the King of Clubs when The Supermarkets and rock band Bag That Weasel played there on Friday, December 10, a follow-up concert with The Supermarkets and Freak By Wire will take place on January 28.

James Kirkness, owner of Kings Arms, said: “There was a wonderful turnaround for the first occasion of King of Clubs and a successful relaunch in December.

“We are delighted to announce the time of the live music evening with local bands at our independent venue. We only had positive feedback for our first gig and a lot of interest in others, so we are very happy to bring live music to Ottery after an absence of over 15 years.

Tickets for the January 28 concert can be purchased at the Kings Arms bar or on the Supermarkets website.
