UN Condemns Israel in 3 Resolutions, Erases Jewish Connection to Judaism’s Holiest Site

NEW YORK, December 2, 2021 – Yesterday, the United Nations General Assembly followed 3 unilateral resolutions aimed at Israel, as a component of a total of 14 resolutions passed over the next month targeting the Jewish state, with five from the rest of the world. combined (Click here to see the texts and voting sheets).

“The UN attack on Israel with a torrent of unilateral resolutions is surreal,” said Hillel Neuer, director of UN Watch, a Geneva-based non-governmental tracking organization.

“It is absurd that in 2021, of some 20 UN General Assembly resolutions criticizing countries, 70% on an unmarried country: Israel. What motivates those unbalanced condemnations is a harsh political program to demonize the Jewish state,” Neuer said.

Yesterday’s solution on Jerusalem refers to the Temple Mount, the holiest in Judaism, only through its Muslim name, “Haram al-Sharif. “

Neuer said that “the UN manifests its contempt for Judaism and Christianity by approving a solution that does not mention the call of the Temple Mount, which is the holiest place in Judaism and which is sacred to all who worship the Bible, in which the ancient temple of utmost importance.

Another solution blames Israel only for the lack of peace, giving a loose pass to the Palestinian Authority. References to terrorism do not call for perpetrators like Hamas and Islamic Jihad, while Israel is slandered and blamed everywhere.

“The General Assembly has followed resolutions on Palestinians who do not say a word about terrorism and other serious human rights violations committed through the Palestinian Authority, Hamas and Islamic Jihad. They don’t even seek to publicize democracy, accountability and the rule of law to help Palestinians living in spaces ruled by the Palestinian Authority and Hamas,” Neuer said.

The adoption of the resolutions came two days after the UN celebrated its annual International Day of Palestinian Solidarity, with unilateral occasions in Geneva and New York.

“While France, Germany, Sweden and other EU states are expected to support nearly all of the 14 resolutions to be adopted against Israel during this General Assembly, the same European nations have failed to introduce a single UNGA resolution on the human rights situation in China, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Cuba, Turkey, Pakistan, Vietnam, Algeria, or on 170 other countries,” said Neuer. “Where’s the supposed EU concern for international law and human rights?”

UN Watch recently launched a comprehensive database that documents the UN’s bias against Israel, featuring individualized petitions for different countries, in multiple languages, urging governments to stop enabling the subversion of UN Charter principles such as the promise of equal treatment for all nations.

As shown in the database, since 2015 until the present day, the General Assembly has passed 115 condemnatory resolutions against Israel and only 45 against the rest of the world combined.

India, United Kingdom, Germany, Netherlands, Brazil, Czech Republic and Hungary direct votes to Israel:

However, as a result of our global campaign, UN Watch welcomes the modest but remarkable progress in cutting countries by annual resolutions that discriminate against Israel.

The solution on Jerusalem was followed by 129 votes to 11 with 31 abstentions, marking an increase from the 14 countries that abstained in the last vote in 2018, this time, several European states replaced their votes. Republic and Hungary, which have gone from the past to a vote opposed to the solution, joining Israel, the United States, Canada and Australia.

While the major European states, with France, Italy, Switzerland, Spain and Sweden, voted in favour of the resolution, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia broke ranks and replaced their countries. votes to abstain, as do the states, adding India, Brazil and Colombia.

The solution on the “peaceful settlement of the Palestine consultation” followed by an overwhelming majority of 148 votes to 9, with 14 abstentions. Although almost all European states supported the solution, Hungary, to its credit, replaced its vote in favor last year. joining Israel, the United States, Canada and Australia among the nine states that voted against it. Czech Republic, Slovenia and Uruguay went from Yes to Abstention.

YESTERDAY’S RESOLUTIONS ADDRESSED TO ISRAL

Here are the 3 resolutions in a row that target Israel:

1. “Jerusalem”

Excerpt: “Expressing grave concern over the continued closure of Palestinian institutions in the City as well as acts of provocation and incitement, including by Israeli settlers, including against holy sites.”

Analysis: Implies that Israeli administration of Jerusalem hinders freedom of religion when in fact the opposite is true—before 1967, Jordan destroyed Jewish holy sites and denied access to Jews, while under Israel all faiths have access to the city and enjoy full freedoms. Uses of uniformly harsh language against Israel that is not used even against regimes like Iran. Repeated passage of annual resolution to address acts from 1980, or matters already covered in other similar resolutions, serve no purpose other than demonization. Uses only the Islamic term “Haram al-Sharif” to describe Jerusalem’s Temple Mount, ignoring Jewish and Christian religion and history.

2. “Palestine Peaceful Agreement”

Excerpt: “Reaffirming the illegality of the activities of the Israeli agreement and all other unilateral measures aimed at converting the demographic composition, character and prestige of the city of Jerusalem and the Occupied Palestinian Territory as a whole, adding the wall and its related regime, and not being easy to cease it promptly, and condemning any use of force against Palestinian civilians in violation of foreign law, adding children.

Analysis: Blame Israel for the lack of peace. The text is redundant with respect to several other resolutions and has no effect other than demonization. References to terrorism do not call its perpetrators, while Israel is slandered and accused everywhere.

3. “The Syrian Golan”

Excerpt: “Deeply involved in Israel’s retreat from the Syrian Golan, which has been in profession since 1967. . . “

Analysis: redundant in an existing solution on “the occupied Syrian Golan”. Ignore the genocidal massacres that are taking place recently in Syria and their implications for the security of Israel and civilians in the Golan Heights. Ignore Syria’s history of bombing Israeli communities, the previous appeals of its leaders. for a “war of annihilation” opposed to Israel, and the Syrian aggression of 1967 that led to the loss of territory. It calls on Israel to negotiate with Syria and Lebanon by making the same request to those countries.
